MSI unveiled its new K9A2 Platinum motherboard this week which is the first board based on the new AMD 790FX chipset. We already wrote about it but now we have a couple more details.
MSI introduces the MSI K9A2 Platinum, with true AM2+ CPU support. This motherboard is based on the latest AMD 790FX chipset with dual channel DDR2 800/1066 support. The MSI K9A2 Platinum is ready to fully support features such as the new Quad Core Phenom CPU’s for extreme overclocking, HyperTransport 3.0, improved internal bandwidth, MSI unique Dual CoreCell technology, Quad CrossFire, HD 7.1 channel Sound and the new designed MSI Circu-Pipe cooling solution. Other special features are SAS, which makes the motherboard an excellent workstation solution and the energy saving Circu-Pipe and dual phase PWM to support the “green” motherboard concept of MSI.

Quad Core and Quad CrossFire ready!
The MSI K9A2 Platinum provides AM2+ Phenom Quad CPU support and will bring more benefits to multimedia and multitasking by enhancing the performance and reducing the waiting time for any kind of applications. The motherboard provides high definition audio/video stream editing.

MSI designed quad PCI-E VGA to be ready for triple card CrossFire and even Quad CrossFire with PCI-E Gen2 bandwidth! These solutions will provide higher 3D gaming resolutions with more detailed DX10 effects. Further, it also enhances the 3D frame rate to a higher level for a smoother gaming experience.

New “Green” motherboard concept by MSI
MSI has designed a new version of the award winning MSI Circu-Pipe cooling solution. The Dual phase PWM design with up to 95% power transfer efficiency and the new MSI Circu-Pipe are designed to support the “green” motherboard concept. This concept reduces heat faster and saves more power consumption. MSI keeps on working on a better environment to save the earth from pollution and resource waste.
Extra SATA hardware RAID with SAS ready port
The MSI K9A2 Platinum would make an excellent entry-level workstation solution. For mission critical applications it has a unique SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) RAID controller. SAS is commonly used in Enterprise storage solutions. MSI is the first to apply this on a desktop motherboard. The feature will provide advantages on performance, scalability and reliability. Above that, SAS is backwards compatible with SATA drives.
