Windows 2000 and Windows NT source code leaked ?!

Posted on Friday, February 13 2004 @ 00:17:35 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

The hot news that the source code of both Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows NT has been leaked is beeing circulated on the internet the past few houres. According to several sites there are two packets circulating the internet; the source of Win2k and the source of WinNT. It is not sure whether this is the full code of these operating systems or not, but according to a few people who saw it the code does look real.
This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about.
If this is true then it could mean a lot of problems for both Microsoft and Microsoft Windows users. For instance virus makers and hackers will able to search for new exploits with the help of this source code. And this could mean a lot of bad things for Windows2000/XP/NT users..
