Asus wants to ship 7 million notebooks this year

Posted on Monday, March 31 2008 @ 06:15:19 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Asus is aiming to ship a total of seven million notebooks this year, including 3.5-3.7 million in China and around 1 million in Taiwan:
Based on quarterly notebook shipments which reached 250,000 units in the Taiwan market during 2007, the company has estimated it will ship about one million units in Taiwan this year. Combined shipments in Taiwan and China are projected to account for nearly 70% of the company's global notebook PC shipments in 2008.

Asustek is looking to focus more on its low-cost Eee PC business in 2008, while also launching entertainment focused notebooks in select markets. The company recently launched a Blue-ray Disc (BD) enabled model with a 15.4-inch display, and plans to follow with a 14-inch model in the second quarter, according to the company.
