DigiTimes spreads the news that HP plans to outsource the production of 13-14 million of 15.6-inch notebooks with a 16:9 aspect ratio display to Taiwanese notebook makers in 2009.
The notebook orders will be distributed among Quanta Computer, Wistron, Inventec and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry). The volume is much higher compared to HP's mainstream notebook average outsourcing in 2008 which is expected to range between 6-7 million units, the sources commented.

The sources also noted that the 15.6-inch models will feature LED backlight units (BLUs). In the fourth quarter of 2009, HP expects over 80% of its 14- and 15-inch notebooks will feature LED BLU panels.

Quanta and Wistron together have grabbed around 10-12 million units of the orders, while Inventec and Foxconn together will grab two million units.

Although Compal Electronics was not selected to become a manufacturer of the 15.6-inch model, the company will still make 14.1- and 17-inch notebooks for HP in 2009.
