ATI to launch Radeon X700 (RV410) on September 15

Posted on Wednesday, August 25 2004 @ 17:41:28 CEST by Thomas De Maesschalck

Different sources report that ATI will launch its new graphics chip, codenamed RV410, on September 15. Most likely this mainstream card will be named Radeon X700. It is said that this is ATI's answer to the GeForce 6600 from NVIDIA.

The X700 should have 8 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex pipelines. The company's current flagship, the Radeon X800, has respectively 12 and 6 of these pipelines. The X700 will also feature native PCI Express x16.

It is possible that there will be a few different models of the X700. Speculations arise that ATI's fastest X700 model will feature a 500MHz core and 1000MHz memory.

Since the advice price of the NVIDIA 6600GT is 229EUR in Europe the Radeon X700 will probably be available at a comparable price.
