Linux to lose foothold in netbook market

Posted on Thursday, March 19 2009 @ 03:20:59 CET by Thomas De Maesschalck

Economic Daily News cites numbers from a Taiwanese research firm regarding the share of operating systems in the netbook market. The unnamed firm claims the global marketshare of Linux-based netbooks is expected to drop to only 10 percent this year, down from 70 percent in 2008.
The figures showed that global netbook shipments were around 300,000 units in 2007, 11.21 million units in 2008 and will reach 23.2 million units in 2009, added the paper.
