Rumors hit the media that Intel is in talks with AMD to license GPU patents. Details are sketchy but the source is Bloomberg so the news seems a bit more trustworthy than the usual exclusives from tech rumor websites.

One factor urging Intel to get into talks with AMD may be the fact that the chip giant's cross-licensing deal with NVIDIA expires in Q1 2017. Under this deal, Intel is allowed to use NVIDIA IP in its integrated graphics in exchange for a licensing fee of $264 million a year.

Whether Intel just wants to turn on pressure on NVIDIA to get a better deal or is looking to further improve its graphics by licensing AMD technology is unknown.
