Super Talent 200x USB Flash Drive

Flash drives designed/marketed with Windows Vista's new ReadyBoost feature in mind are flooding the market. In this review I'm taking a look at a new ReadyBoost ready flash drive from Super Talent.

Super Talent is a Californian company that makes memory modules, flash drives, SSD flash drives and a couple of other products like MP3 players and SD memory cards. They have been in the memory industry for over 20 years and hold over 100 patents in memory technology.

The DH series 200x flash drives from Super Talent are available in capacities from 512MB to 8GB. In this review I'm taking a look at the 4GB model (DHBS4GBBK).

The Super Talent 200x USB drive ships in this package. The package is very basic, it lists some of the specifications on the back but unfortunately it doesn't even list the name of the product. This may make it hard to find this product in a store because Super Talent has multiple flash drives with ReadyBoost support and I suppose that not all of them are as fast as this model.

The package only contains the flash drive, accessories like a USB extension cable or a keychain ring aren't included.

The flash drive is available in two colours: black and silver. There's some text on the front of the drive with Super Talent's logo and on the right of the drive is a piece of translucent plastic which lights up red when you connect it to one of your USB ports.

Lets take a look at the specifications of this flash drive:
  • Dimension: 64.5 mm x 16.8 mm x 7.1 mm
  • Full compatibility with USB 1.1 and 2.0
  • Dual Channel Flash Memory Architecture
  • Hot plug and play; Functions like another hard drive
  • Supports password protection
  • No driver needed for most operating systems (Windows 98SE driver available online)
  • LED indicates power, busy
  • More than 10 years data retention
  • Limited lifetime warranty

  • The whole body is painted in black. The memory stick is about as big as my pinky but it's very thin compared to other flash drives that I've reviewed in the past. According to Super Talent's specifications the whole body (except the cap) is made out of aluminium and I have to agree that the drive feels very sturdy. The build quality of this product is excellent.

Head over to the second page for the benchmarks and ReadyBoost analysis.
