Apple Xcode 2.5

Posted on Friday, November 02 2007 @ 1:29 CET by

Xcode 2.5 is a minor update to the Tiger tools that is functionally similar to Xcode 2.4.1. It is not considered a critical update. Xcode 2.5 for the first time supports development hosted on Tiger as well as Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). This release is recommended for developers needing to continue to use the Tiger tools while running Leopard, and serves as a transition to Xcode 3.0. On Tiger systems Xcode 2.5 will upgrade previous versions of Xcode; on Leopard systems Xcode 2.5 will install along side Xcode 3.0. Xcode 2.5 does not support developing for the Leopard SDK or Leopard-specific features. Please read the release notes for installation details.

There are three improvements in this version of Xcode
  • Its Installer allows you to install on either a Tiger or Leopard system
  • When installing on Leopard, you may install in a location other than the /Xcode2.5 directory on the startup volume
  • When installed on Leopard, you may move the /Xcode2.5 folder in its entirety to any other location and use Xcode normally

Soooooo sad - The disk image for OS 10.4.11 that I have wont install Xcode correctly.

    Bummer!

    Found it:

However - you have to sign up for a ADC membership = free.

Once you do - go to: downloads/Developer Tools

if you do a page search for Xcode 2.5 it will still be there (11.02.09) about halfway down the list.

    cheers

HERE IT IS: Re: Apple Xcode 2.5

Go to:
http://developer.apple.com/mac/

You will need to log in (or create a new account--it’s free). You will then end up at:
https://developer.apple.com/mac/

After your screen loads the new page, you must click on the small link at the top right that says:
“ADC Member Site”
The link will be (something that starts with):
http://connect.apple.com/
(You may be able to go there first, but I didn’t want to take the risk!)

The next page be a grid of four links, only one of which will be active until you log in (again). One of the links that will NOT be active will be “Downloads.”

Now when you log in (again) the same page will be visible, BUT THE DOWNLOADS LINK WILL BE ACTIVE.

Click on the Downloads link and you will go to a new page, listing “What's New.”

On the right side of the page, there will be a column entitled “Downloads.”

Click on the link, “Developer Tools”

Go there and you will find many downloads, in reverse chronological order, including “Xcode 2.5 Developer Tools” (immediately BEFORE “XCode 3.0”).

Good luck!!

;-)

AMEN & big thanks also for XCode 2.5 download link! http://adcdownload.apple.com/Developer_Tools/xcode_2.5_developer_tools/xcode25_8m2558_developerdvd.dmg apple makes it impossible to find and download any of the tiger compatible versions of xcode. which is stupid if you still have a tiger based hardware and need to test compatibilities. really stupid move by apple. along w/ the $99/yr fee! or for instance what if we need to upgrade/update from having access only to original 2.0 version on the tiger install disk due to a crashed / bricked disk? wtf is up w/ that apple? thanks to dvhardware.net again. very much appreciated!

Those dynamic links dont last long, but you can go here, then click on Developer Tools:

    http://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/downloads

You can access the downloads after joining the developers club, taking a short survey & confirming your e-mail address. Of course they try to squeeze money out of you but there is still a free membership option. (There is still a live torrent too, but it is VERY slow due to a lack of seeders.)

Version history & package description is here:
