PlayStation 5 GPU nearly on-par with GeForce RTX 2080?

Posted on Thursday, August 15 2019 @ 11:44:30 CEST by

Sony
Word is going around that the AMD-based graphics solution of the Sony PlayStation 5 console will be almost as powerful as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 video card. The PS5 console will feature a processor based on the AMD 7nm Zen 2 architecture and a custom-design Navi-based chip with support for real-time ray tracing.
A few hours ago, Komachi leaked Oberon sample clocks, which is assumed to be the same as Ariel and Gonzalo, both considered to be the name of the APU for the PlayStation 5. The gen2 number is extremely high, and it would put the console ahead of the AMD Navi 5700 GPU and almost on par with the RTX 2080 in terms of power.
