Following the new rumors about an Apple car potentially hitting the road in 2024, Elon Musk made some comments about the project on Twitter. In response to a tweet made by Brett Winton, Director of Research at ARKInvest, Musk said he found Apple's battery plans strange.

Where it gets even more interesting is that Musk reveals he tried to sell Tesla to Apple during the "darkest days of the Model 3 program." These days Tesla is trading at sky-high valuations and is flush with cash thanks to several recent capital raises, but a couple of years ago the electric car maker was struggling to make ends meet.

Musk said he reached out to Apple CEO Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla -- but Cook wasn't interested in setting up a meeting.
