Microsoft beats expectations with strong financial results driven by sales of its Windows and Office software.

The software giant reported a second financial quarter revenue of $16.37 billion, 30 percent more than a year ago. Profits increased from $2.6 billion a year ago to $4.7 billion, which equals 50 cents per share.

Wall Street analysts had forecast a revenue of $15.94 billion and earnings of 46 cents per share. Microsoft says sales of Windows Vista grew by a double-digit percentage in the holiday season.
