Blu-ray selects AACS content protection, just like HD-DVD

The Blu-ray Association has selected the same protection scheme as HD-DVD to protect next-generation DVD media. The Advanced Access Content System (AACS) includes a watermarking and digital rights management (DRM) update scheme to secure discs against piracy.

The watermarking scheme means that discs will be secured with a Rom Mark, a means of embedding a unique identifier on the disc that also prevents it being played on unlicensed players.
