Intel preparing Linux-based Viiv to cut costs

reports something Microsoft won't be pleased with. They heard from Taiwanese sources that Intel is working to create Linux-based Viiv entertainment systems, to reduce the cost and selling price.
Viiv-based PCs will initially be based on the Microsoft Window Media Center OS, which should drive up the costs, as a special OS authorization is needed. Currently, quotes for Media Center PCs are more than US$1,200, compared to US$400-500 for average PCs, the makers explained.
Viiv will be introduced with the dual-core Anchor Creek platform which includes the dual-core Pentium D processor and the Intel 945 chipset.
