SharkyExtreme posted its thoughts of Intel's Pentium EE 840:

Dual core is the future is desktop computing. At least this is the mantra we've been hearing from both the AMD and Intel camps, but even so, the reasons are pretty clear. Single core processors depend on every-higher clock speeds, architectural improvements and core revisions, but in the dual-core world, current processors can be "doubled up" to provide improved performance without trying to reinvent the wheel. This is actually sound logic, as dual core processors would reposition existing technology, and provide a 2xPentium 4 or 2xAthlon 64 architecture, without all the nasty baggage of a current dual-processor system. One processor, one package, and one socket to worry about on the platform side, but with two individual cores powering the internal system.
