Panasonic SDR-S100 SD Camcorder Review

When Panasonic reps first told us their new three-CCD SDR-S100 camcorder ($1199.95 direct) records to SD memory cards, we were a bit perplexed. Most three-CCD camcorders record fairly high-quality video using MiniDV tape, as opposed to lower-quality one-chip camcorders that record to MiniDV tape, DVD-R, hard drives, and memory cards. And because SD camcorders are limited by the relatively small storage capacity of SD cards, the video footage from these camcorders is typically quite compressed in order to fit more than a few minutes of video on the card. Given the high capacity requirements of three-CCD video camcorders, Panasonic's idea of making one that uses SD cards didn't immediately make much sense. Read on at PC Mag to learn more about this 3.1 megapixel camcorder.
