Computer gaming had drastically evolved through the past and things have changed since then. If you look at the hardware requirement that recent PC games demand, you will end up upgrading your whole PC just to play that particular game in its full experience. Games like Doom 3, Far Cry and Half-Life:2 can now be enjoyed to the fullest thanks to amazing graphics technology by ATI and NVIDIA. Upgrading to the latest ATI or NVIDIA based graphics card will certainly improve gaming performance, but it depends on how you define gaming performance. First Person Shooting (FPS) games such as Doom 3 and Counter-Strike demands for a better graphics board and computation power but that just makes the game look good.
