The AW8-MAX is ABIT’s latest motherboard supporting the Intel LGA775 CPU. ABIT mated the board with the Intel 955X chipset, which supports all LGA775-based processors including those with a 1066MHz FSB and Dual Cores, DDR2 RAM modules operating in Dual Channel modes up to speeds of 667MHz officially, and PCI Express x16 type video cards. Following industry standards, the AW8-MAX is a feature complete solution as it only needs a minimal amount of additional components for a functioning system. Components needed include an LGA775 CPU, DDR2 memory, a PCI Express x16 video card, drives, and PSU. ABIT integrated the following components into the AW8-MAX’s design: 1 IDE ATA-100 port; 1 floppy port; 4 SATA2 ports on the ICH7R controller (RAID 0, 1, and 5 capable); 2 SATA2 ports on the Silicon Image controller (RAID 0 and 1 capable); 8 USB 2.0 capable ports (4 in rear panel, and 2 onboard headers supporting 2 port each); 3 IEEE 1394 capable ports (1 in rear panel, 2 onboard headers supporting 1 port each); dual Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet ports in rear panel; Realtek High Definition 8-channel audio codec featuring S/PDIF optical output port; and PS/2 port support..
