LaptopMag had a short look at a noise cancelling headset, here's a snip from their review:

Positioned as a lower priced alternative to Bose’s top-of-the-line Quietcomfort 2 ($299), Outside The Box’ new Solitude noise-canceling headphones are $100 cheaper and deliver better than average performance. We like the volume dial located on the left cup, the foldable headband for easy storage, and the fairly significant ability to function even when the noise-canceling is switched off (should you drain the life out of the two AAA batteries).
