Futuremark 3DMark06 Review

When we benchmark video cards, we always try to use real games rather than synthetic "graphics only" benchmarks, which may or may not represent the kinds of workloads you find in a high-end 3D game. There is one synthetic non-game 3D benchmark we consistently use, though: 3DMark. Although not a game, 3DMark stresses graphic workloads more than CPU power and does a pretty good job of providing a forward-looking view of PC gaming graphics. Generally speaking, if a graphics card is 40% faster in the latest 3DMark, you can count on it being roughly that much faster on most future games.
