In this article we will be looking at an item which every computer should have, an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). This product is designed to work between the power source (usually from a wall outlet) and the items being protected. It can be thought of as a surge protector which has its own battery, so that when the power source fails the devices whose load is being supported will still have power. The amount of time these devices can stay on before they lose power depends on the capacity of the UPS and the draw generated by the protected items. While Ultra Products is not have the reputation of a company like APC, they have put out a line of UPS products. The model I received for testing is the 1500 VA 900 watts Backup UPS with AVR. Despite Ultra not being the best known company is power protection the product has a nice feature set and, if Ultra's power supply units are any indication, it should have the reliability consumers that consumers demand.
