Along with processor speeds and disk capacities increasing every year, another less noticed trend is that the power consumed by a personal computer as also grown every year. Once upon a time a 200W PSU was more than ample for a computer system, but computer users have been willing to deal with higher electric bills to have more powerful systems. It looks like Intel and AMD have made great strides to reign in their power consumption of their processors, the graphic industry now has given their customers the ability to outfit their dream machines with either one, two or four graphics cards which has pushed power supply's wattage increasingly up over the last few years.
