During Computex in Taipei this past summer, Intel officially unveiled their latest core logic solution, the 965 chipset. While not targeted to replace the 975X chipset as the enthusiast platform of choice for Intel processors, the P965 chipset is making its way into enthusiast class motherboards such as this Abit AB9 Pro. One very significant change in the P965 chipset is that it no longer natively supports PATA. This leaves manufactures to Include PATA support via an additional add in controller. While I’m always a fan of phasing out old technology, I believe Intel jumped the gun on this one, as most optical drives available on the market today still feature a PATA interface.
