Ever since the merger with ATI, AMD has been aggressively working on the various product lines by ATI, especially the chipset segment. AMD hasn't been rolling out any desktop chipsets ever since their 750/760MP/MPX chipsets, and it's about fine time that they made an attempt at the chipset market again. THe 690G consists of a RS690 Northbridge and the old SB600 Southbridge, with the main emphasis of the chipset being based on the home-theatric abilities. The RS690 Core consists of a modified version of the Radeon X700LE. Code named X1250, the chip runs at a core clock of 400MHz, and has 4 pixel shaders instead of the original 8 found on the X700 core. Like all onboard graphics, the X1250 core shares system memory as with graphics memory, with an option to allow up to 1GB of system memory to be utilised as graphics memory.
