Flash back to 1982 - the height of the arcade craze. In packed arcades across the world, gamers clamor for a chance to sit in the cockpit of the most realistic F1 simulation yet released to the public. In all its 128-color, pseudo-3D glory, Namco's Pole Position set the high water mark for auto racing games and paved the way for the genre we now call Racing Simulation. Would-be virtual Mario Andrettis wore the steering wheels smooth on those original arcade units, and the popularity of racing games prompted a wave of development which continues to this day.
