Nvidia cut the number of stream processors on the 8600 GTS to 32 from the 128 and 96 of the 8800 GTX and GTS but keeps the clockspeed of the 8600 GTS fairly high at 675MHz for the core and 2GHz effective for the 256MB of GDDR3 memory on a 128-bit bus, very hindered from the 8800 series. The card is also manufactured in an 80nm process and features less than half the transistors though nearly equivalent number to the GeForce 7900 GTX, though without the performance.
