Western Digital 320 GB Scorpio Black Notebook Hard Disk Drive Review

If you were impressed with the performance of the 5400 RPM Western Digital Scorpio, you will be astounded by the "higher-end" Western Digital Scorpio Black. Running with a higher spindle speed of 7,200 RPM and boasting twice the cache of a Scorpio, the Scorpio Black represents the epitome of Western Digital mobile hard disk drive technology.

We had the opportunity to give their top-of-the-line 320 GB Scorpio Black for a test drive and we were most impressed with its performance. Not only did it deliver a large storage capacity, it also delivered excellent results in our benchmarks. In fact, it had the same platter-to-buffer transfer rates as the 500 GB Western Digital Caviar GP desktop hard disk drive! In this update, we added a new page on Surface Temperature and the Platter Data Transfer Profile, as well as a new page on Usable Capacity.
