The HD 6970 and HD 6950 are the new graphics cards based on the Cayman architecture and come priced according to performance. The HD 6970 is the higher-end model of the two and is set to compete with the likes of the GTX 470. According to AMD’s internal testing the HD 6970 will yield performance above the GTX 570 level, yet is priced at a very aggressive $369.99 price point. The HD 6950 however has yet to draw a direct competitor from NVIDIA, but even so AMD will launch it with a price of only $299.99. These are exceptionally low prices for two high-end graphics cards at launch, which brings to mind the fierce reaction from NVIDIA with the surprise launch of the 500 series.
