Sony PSP Review

I reserved my psp back in december, and I picked up my psp system on launch day here in the states. The first thing you will notice about the psp when you first open it up is how pretty this thing is. The screen and the pure shine on the finish of the system is a jaw dropper. I picked up a copy of ridge racer (it looked like the most promising launch game), and the visuals are amazing. Racing during sunset on a course, you will see extremley good car and street reflections (in my opinion, the reflections are project gotham racing 2 worthy).

The rest of the game is polished very nicley, and it is a good demonstration of the capabilities of the psp. If you look at the system spec sheet, you will discover that the psp's innards are superior to the ps2's. Sony was even quoted as saying 'polygon for polygon, the psp is a faster system than the playstation 2'. BUT since it is launch, the developers have not even figured out how to use the psp to its full potential. Compare launch titles of any system right now to the current generation of games, and you will notice a huge difference. Gran Tourismo 4 (which will be a straight port of the playstation 2 version) will for sure look incredible running on the psp's gorgeous screen.

Battery life has also been pretty good. Playing Ridge Racer on wi-fi with 3 other psp's and with medium screen brightness for over an hour left my battery life at 81%, which isn't too shabby at all.

Overall, the psp is a milestone in portable gaming. With it being a technically superior system to playstation 2, this is a great accomplishment by sony. PSP has a very long list of developers working on titles for the system, which will provide the psp with a vast library of games in the future, just like the playstation 2. I would reccommend this system to any gamer, xbox owners (like myself), playstation owners, gamecube owners, anything else. But since this is a expensive system, I would strongly suggest this system for people over 15.
