Super Talent T1000UX2G5 PC2-8000 2GB DDR memory kit review

Last week I reviewed the Super Talent 200x USB drive and this week I offer you a review of one of Super Talent's new DDR2 memory kits. The test subject of this review is the Super Talent T1000UX2G5 - a 2GB kit with a matched pair of 1000MHz DDR2 memory modules.

Super Talent isn't as well known as some of the more popular memory brands but they've been around for a while and have a pretty solid lineup of memory modules. This company is headquartered in San Jose, California, and manufactures all its memory modules in the U.S.

Super Talent holds over 100 patents on DRAM and Flash module design and manufacturing processes and all their memory modules feature a lifetime warranty.

This is the package in which the memory arrives, it looks kinda plain and offers very little information about the memory modules. The back has some background information about Super Talent's Extreme Performance Memory lineup and some praising words from other hardware review sites but the amount of documentation about these memory modules is limited to a small sticker on the memory modules themselves.

I believe Super Talent should spend a bit more time on the design of the package and provide some more information as the current package of these modules doesn't even state that the modules have a lifetime warranty.

Now lets take a look at the specifications of the T1000UX2G5:

Features:
  • 2x 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs
  • Non-ECC, Unbuffered
  • 2GB kit (2x 128Mx64)
  • DDR2-1000, 5-5-5-15 latencies
  • Dual rank
  • Chip Architecture: 2x 16 chips, 64Mx8
  • Cast aluminum high-efficiency (HE) heatspreader
  • SPD: DDR2-800, 5-5-5-15 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) latencies
  • Made in USA
  • Super Talent Lifetime Warranty
  • The T1000UX2G5 memory modules were all tested as a matched pair on the Asus P5WD2 motherboard in Super Talent's lab to ensure that they are capable of achieving a clockspeed of 1000MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings at a 2.2V voltage.

This kit isn't the fastest 2GB memory kit from Super Talent, they also have the T1000UX2G4 which is a pair of two 1000MHz 1GB modules with slightly better timings of 4-5-4-15.

The memory modules feature a nice blue aluminum heatspreader with lots of small ridges to increase heat dissipation. One side of the memory module features the Super Talent logo and the other side has a sticker with the module's specifications.

The blue heatspreaders are glued onto the DDR2 memory chips with thermal paste.

Let's move on to the second page of this review for the testing and benchmark results.
