It is rumoured that NVIDIA may launch its GeForce 7800 GT at the QuakeCon 2005 gaming event in Texas (August 11-14). Exact details aren't available but an insider claims the GeForce 7800GT would cost $449.99 in retail. This is about $150 less than the GeForce 7800GTX which retails for $599.99.

CTZ further claims that just like the GeForce 7800GTX, NVIDIA won't paper launch the 7800GT. Although it is possible that it may take a week er so before retail cards will be available in quantity.
Although Quakecon appears to be an unlikely event for a launch, it may not be. Considering the amount of coverage it would gain from online publications, the company has a great opportunity for publicity. Furthermore, NVIDIA is one of the key sponsors of Quakecon this year, which also hints something. Simply put, NVIDIA’s 7800GT would be the talk on the web comes next month.
While the GeForce 7800 GTX is already available in shops for a few weeks, ATI's R520 appears to be delayed till August/September.
