The ongoing cryptocurrency mining boom is having a major impact on GPU prices. First miners flocked to AMD's Radeon RX 470/480 cards but as inventories are running low NVIDIA's GeForce cards are also seeing huge mining demand.

This is leading to absurd situations on Newegg, where in stock GeForce GTX 1070 cards now have a minimum price of at least $657.99! This means a GeForce GTX 1080 is now cheaper than a GTX 1070 on Newegg as new GTX 1080 cards are sold for $519.99.

And to make matters even weirder, most of the the cheapest GTX 1070 cards on Newegg are watercooled versions, probably because these cards are too much hassle to deal with in mining rigs.

For reference, the launch price of the GeForce GTX 1070 was $379 ($449 for Founders Edition), they're now selling for almost as much money as the $699 GeForce GTX 1080 Ti cards!
