The GPU comes of age, GeForce 256 is now 18 years old

It almost seems like yesterday but the first graphics chip that was marketed as a GPU is now 18 years old! Launched on August 31, 1999, the NVIDIA GeForce 256 was the company's very first GeForce. It was the first video card to integrate transform and lighting (T&L) into the graphics chip and it helped to lay the groundwork for NVIDIA's dominance in the GPU market.
