Yesterday benchmark scores leaked of an engineering sample of the six-core Intel Core i7-8700K CPU and now Chinese tech site PC Online got its hands on a quad-core Core i5-8600K processor. The 7700K is currently one of the fastest choices for hardcore gamers but it looks like Intel's mid-range Coffee Lake-S lineup will pack quite a punch too.

The scores from PC Online reveal the upcoming $257 Core i5-8600K offers a performance level in games that's very similar to the Core i7-7700K. Both chips are basically trading blows but the 8600K offers higher energy efficiency.

In the PC Online test, the Core i5-8600K system had a total power draw in load of 381W, versus a total draw of 392W by the 7700K. The new 8700K flagship is a bit faster but draws 40W more than the 8600K.

The official launch date is October 5 so expect a lot of reviews on that date.
