Taiwanese foundry TSMC is seeing very strong demand for its 7nm process. A lot of chip makers are making the transition to 7nm for their latest products and 5G is a major growth driver for the 7nm node.

DigiTimes heard from industry sources that TSMC is now advising its clients to book capacity for the entire year 2020 if they want to be sure of supply.

There's not a whole lot of competition in the cutting-edge foundry business. TSMC is by far the largest, while Samsung ranks seconds. Intel doesn't really have any major clients and GlobalFoundries dumped its 7nm development last year to focus on becoming a specialty foundry.
