UPDATE: ASUS is now saying that it will support Ryzen 5000 series CPUs on its 400-series mainboards.

Despite AMD promising that 400-series chipsets would support the new Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series processors, it seems not all motherboard makers are planning to offer support. In response to a question about Ryzen 5000 series support for the Crosshair VII Hero X470 motherboard, a Reddit user received the following response from ASUS Support:
I am writing this email to provide you an update about your ongoing case. According to our engineers, We have no plans for the Crosshair VII Hero to support the Ryzen 5900X, please purchase Crosshair VIII Hero and any Ass (*ASUS) B550 motherboard that will support Ryzen 5900X and 5000 series processors.
Unless the ASUS customer service guy is wrong, it seems ASUS isn't planning to support Ryzen 5000 series CPUs on its 400-series motherboards. Unfortunately, the Reddit user got this response from two reps. He first called ASUS support and then asked for the inquiry to be escalated to the engineering department for confirmation, but he got the same answer twice.
