Google was granted a patent for a voice assisted search engine:
Patent number 7,027,987, titled "Voice interface for a search engine", gives details on how the search engine company would want to get into voice recognition sphere and specifically provide a search service.
While the company has not given any confirmation on this, the patent's abstract on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database indicates that it will use voice recognition technology to develop a search service in much the same way as the text-based search service.
