Intel moves transponder manufacturing to Thailand and Malaysia

We spoke to several employees at Intel's transponder manufacturing and design location and all of them indicated to DailyTech that Intel will be closing the location by sometime in Q4 of 2006. Unfortunately, many engineers as well as staff will not be making the transfer because Intel will not be opening a new location elsewhere. Instead, the company will rely on other manufacturers that are able to produce transponders for significantly less labor costs. One employee told us "not even some of the engineers that have been around for nearly five years will be able to keep their jobs." Another employee said "cutting costs is number one now. Shareholders celebrate; workers start brushing up your resumes."
