Infineon to build Malaysian fab - chips for cars & industrial applications

Infineon Technologies will build a fab in Kulim High Tech Park, Malaysia, to produce power supply and logic chips used in cars and industrial power applications, the firm announced on December 8.

Infineon expects to invest a total of US$1 billion in the new fab, for which it expects to break ground in early 2005, followed by an initial ramp-up in 2006. At full capacity, the fab is expected to employ 1,700 people.
