Howto upgrade your Hotmail account to 250MB

Here's a tip to get your Hotmail account upgraded to 250MB instead of the regular 2MB which can be a little bit too small sometimes

I tested it out three hours ago and immediately my account was upgraded to 25MB. A few minutes ago it was upgraded to the full 250MB.

Warning:
Please only try it at your own risk. Don't be angry if it causes any damage! If there are any important e-mails in your account please backup them before proceeding.

It has worked for me and this trick has also worked for a large amount of other people. But some people report that it didn't work for them..

Anyway, here are the steps:

First go to your Hotmail account and log in.
Then go to the settings of your account and click on "My Profile".
You need the adjust the country to United States and the state to Florida (postal code 33332). (it could be that other states also work)
Then go to http://memberservices.passport.net/memberservice.srf?lc%2043.
Click on the link to terminate your .NET passport. Then you need to click on the button the contact Hotmail and click on "close my account".
Close Internet Explorer and go to hotmail.com and log in again.
Normally you should have a 25MB account now. Soon it will be upgraded to 250MB!

  I'v only had my account for three months and it was automatically upgraded to 250mb, funny thing is i rarely use it. Only when i need to give an email address for something on the net.

  It depends. I got 250MB in about three hours. A friend of me who did this trick at the same time as me is still stuck with 25MB..

Hmm i tried this too but it didn't work the way i wanted. Im from Sweden and i did exactly what you have written. Now it asks me "You need a parent's permission to continue. Is a parent with you right now?" And then i got to go through some steps where it at last asks me to give them my creditcard nr so they can verify that im an adult. The step where it said Click on the link to terminate your .NET passport went fine but i never got to the point where i should have clicked the "contact Hotmail and click on "close my account" Any ideas on why it didn't appear for me? I would be greatful if anyone could help me out here. I've got some important e-mails on my account and i can't log on to MSN Messenger or my hotmail account.

  Hi, I guess your problem is the date of birth, if you are under 18 years old, you could try modifying your birthdate first to something before january 7th 1987 and then restart the entire process, I hope that works,

  hi My dear friend The things you are telling about is just because you have written your date of birth to some that makes you under 18 years. Change you date of birth in the same "Personal"Menu under "Options" and then proceed on with the method that is described here. Hope it will work for you.   Worked for me so far. I now have a 25Mb account and didn't loose anything. When you deactivate the account it seems it will actually remain for up to 10 days and can be reactivated by logging back in. I'm not changing my profile back until it's upgraded to 250Mb - maybe they check... :)

this is an old trick, it worked also if you put you're from madrid,spain zipcode 20085 and then do step 4,5,6 and 7. and you cant change the zipcode until it gives you the 250 mb, if you changed it you will be stuck with the 25mb and you have to do all the steps again

worked ok for me and my sis. despite the warning about emails getting deleted if you de-activate your account, none of it actually gets deleted. All my 300 plus emails were still there and all is good. 30 more days to go for the 250Mb. Oh, and as mentioned previously, it doesn't work with @msn.com accounts.

Oh my GOD!! It worked. I Can't believe it. 25mb. But I just remember Hotmail gave more space before, don't remember quite well. But for the ones that are confused are a few thing to add. After setting the country and Postal code, you need to save the settings. In the screen that tells you, that you need to sign out, and sign in to the changes to make effect, you have to copy and paste the link provided before on the browser, and hit "enter", then the link that says, to terminate your passpaort appears, and then the ge to hotmail contact. After that, sign in, It will ask you to buy a 2GB mail, but you must clic on the "get free acount", and after a few pages after of offers my MSN, you will sign in as if was the first time you use your hotmail. Salutes from Guatemala City :)

Worked, took 2 weeks but I got it upgraded at the end, now it is just to try to revert it to my local settings, I think I will wait a little before doing this. Thank you for the tip.

  G*DDAMNIT!!! HOTMAIL!@#(!*@&#(!*@&*!!!!! (Sorry, I'm just pisted off!!!) It now asks for the credit card of my parents because my birthday was somehow set to 2000!!!! So Hotmail thinks I am a child, while I am 31!!!!! and I don't have a creditcard! Now I don't have access to my mail anymore, untill I enter a creditcard.

  I had converted an account before, it worked perfectly. in that account, i can change my profile, but in this new one i'm trying to convert, it never saves the new profile, and always takes you back to the edit-profile page. my guess is that either they are intentionally preventing people from outside US to change their profile, or there's a new glitch in the system. In both possibilities, this was introduced with the new change in the passport login form (now it's blue). Note that they can tell which country you're from. I don't think it has anything to do with privacy settings, cause i blocked everything and deleted all cookies and stuff, but they still show country=LB in their URL, where LB stands for lebanon, i.e. not USA

1. 25 Mb is available for all accounts, even the old ones like mine are upgraded to 25 Mb. 250 Mb however can be maintainted when creatiing a new account (just read at the login prompt) according to msn. If you follow the link though it says only 2mb at the page - really odd. Anyway for upgrading your old accounts. Crappy instruction i think and it might lead to a lot of deleted account. IF I CONTINUE IT SAYS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS MY ACCOUNT ANY MORE. Close Internet Explorer and go to hotmail.com and log in again. BUT IF CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT HOW CAN YOU? Normally you should have a 25MB account now. (YES YOU ALLWAYS HAVE 25 MB NOWADAYS) Soon it will be upgraded to 250MB! (I WONDER - PLEASE GIVE A PROPER DESCRIPTION AND ILL TRY) Regards Boogieman

I don't know whether this trick still works.. The article is already six months old and Microsoft seems to have changed the log-in interface.

Change cuntry back It worked for me to but when i tryed to sign in with the cuntry set to usa i i got an error saying the page coudnt be displyed, so i changed the cuntry back to Norway wich is where im from, and i still got the 25mb upgrade. Thnx!

what .net passport. When i clicked on this link http://memberservices.passport.net/memberservice.srf?lc%2043 there was no tab .net passport nothing bloody annoying?????????
