CommWarrior.a virus infects Symbian phones through MMS

The first Symbian virus that spreads through MMS messages has been found - CommWarrior.a has the capability to scan through the addess book of a mobile phone and randomly sends MMS messages to contact persons.
Besides MMS the virus also uses bluetooth to infect other cell phones. Anti-virus experts fear that this kind of cell phone viruses could cause more problems - the previously discovered cell phone viruses were only able to spread through bluetooth.
MMS (Multimedia Message Service) is a more advanced form of SMS, allowing people to send pictures, sound, video etc. to other cell phones.

“With MMS messages typically costing between $0.25 and $1.00 CommWarrior could also prove expensive to anyone unlucky enough to be infected by it. As the virus runs silently in the background it could be quite some time before the user becomes aware of the potentially hundreds of MMS messages that have been sent” says Davidson.SimWorks, a Symbian anti-virus specialist, said that the virus is already spreading in the wild. The virus only affects Series 60 phones using Symbian 6.1 such as the Nokia 3650, 6600 and 6630.
