Microsoft and Texas Instruments announce Portable Media Center cooperation

Microsoft and Texas Instruments announced a cooperation on future versions of Windows Mobile-based Portable Media Centers. TI announced it will develop a new system-on-a-chip (SoC) media processor aimed at portable applications. The chip will support QVGA resolutions (320x240) for Windows Media Video 9.
It will embed a digital signal processor and an ARM core. An integrated video encoder, hardware video accelerators and USB host capabilities will also be present. The company claims to offer superior performance over single-core portable media center implementations, while minimizing power usage.
