Intel shows off a swarm of 500 drones equipped with LED lights (video)
Last year Intel set a record by operating 100 drones simultaneously, this year they achieve a new world record by upping the number to 500! The 500 Intel Shooting Star drones flew above a field in Krailling, Germany and were controlled by one pilot using a single laptop.
Intel used to drones to create an impressive light show, making the fleet form 3D shapes, words, and various light effects. The feat illustrates how very large numbers of drones can communicate and complete complex tasks. Full details at Intel.

“It demonstrates how a large fleet of drones can communicate and complete complex tasks,” said Natalie Cheung, drone light show business director for the UAV Group at Intel.
Cheung said the technology-powered light show demonstrates how art and drone innovation can combine to create new experiences. She sees the drone lightshow putting a technological twist on traditional fireworks shows without the inherent risks of traditional pyrotechnics.
“This technology can be used for entertainment or for putting ads in the sky,” Cheung said.
A fleet of drones could be used to meet industrial needs and search and rescue missions.
