Windows Vista to boot in 2-3 seconds

Fast On and Off is one of the more than welcome new features of Vista. Microsoft says computers with Windows Vista should start and shut down just as quickly and reliably as a TV. This means bootup times of typically only 2 to 3 seconds. One of the reasons for this is because Windows Vista will process login scripts and startup programs and services in the background, enabling you to start working right away.
Shutting down and restarting your computer should also happen less often by using the New Sleep state. With a simple one-click on and off this new power state will reduce power consumption while maintaining the user data.
Parents will also be happy as Vista will feature advanced Parental Controls to monitor, manage, and administer their children's computer usage to keep them safe.
Then there are also new diagnostics tools which will help the user to detect, analyze and fix problems such as failing hard drives, networking and performance issues more quickly and easily.
Microsoft has also added new user account protection features. Windows Vista User Account Protection will bridge the gap between user and administrative privileges by running programs with limited permissions. When you need to perform an administrative task, such as installing software or drivers, Windows Vista will prompt you to confirm your intentions or to provide the proper administrator credentials.
Businesses will be able to protect their employee's systems data without affecting productivity by using seamlessly-implemented Standard User Accounts.
Especially the 2-3 seconds boot-up time for Windows Vista looks pretty good. Lets hope this is more than just a marketing claim.
The 2-3 second startup IS A marketting claim. It would not be shutting down as we know it anyway, so the load up time would not be as bad. Its only if the computer was actually to turn off and then on within that time scale, then it would be a good deal. At present it looks like it is just going into sleep mode and then coming out and with the system requiremenets of Vista, fast ram, fast cpu, why wouldnt it be strange that it can pull out stored mem contents onto hard drive quickly.
ReplyThe 2-3 seconds BOOT time is just plain wrong. Who made this headline up? The truth is that Microsoft has been planning an additional "Rest" or "Always Ready" mode, which is just a slight variation of the fully on (S0) power mode: CPU voltage and clock and the memory clock are lowered so that power consumption is low enough to allow turning the fans off. The machine can resume from this within a fraction of a second, since all it needs to do is bring voltage and clocks back to the normal levels. This has nothing to do with the BOOT process!
ReplyYou really ought to take an english class and learn how to present your view, so that anyone besides yourself could understand what you're saying.
ReplyHeheheh 2-3 sec ? :-) They must be daydreaming ! Anyone with 3 gray cell in brain know that only BIOS boot process need 10 sec minimal for detection of hardware and SCSII or SATA raid drives ;) BTW .. my old windows shutdown instantly ( powerbutton ) without any hard drive or OS damage :-) _DM_
ReplyI'll think they mean only the boot-up time (when you se the vista icon), not to start up BIOS and that stuff!
ReplyAbsolutely this is what they mean. They hae NO control over the hardware portion of your PC. Anyone who has at least 3 brain cells would have known that.
It will boot in 2-3 secs if you have the new hard drives that have the 1GB flash cards in them. Old hard drives like Sata 1 and 2, or EIDE will take the same time as XP. The new drives come out around the time Vista is launched ;)
ReplyBS.this is 2008 i got a fresh install of vista and takes longr too boot than xp..maybe twice long
Replyhow is the download
