Sony Ericsson's T290a is an update of the company's T237 entry-level handset. Like the Nokia 6010 that we recently reviewed, the T290a can be often be found as part of a pre-paid calling plan package. It lacks the megapixel camera and high resolution display that some of Sony Ericsson's high-end phones possess, but it covers the basics well, which makes it a good choice for somebody's first phone, or as an upgrade for an older phone that lacks a color display - without taking a major hit in your wallet.
