Panic Button 2.3
Posted on Sunday, October 21 2007 @ 1:17 CEST by Thomas De MaesschalckPanic Button is intended to help people that support end-users, either sysadmins/helpdesks, or those that simply help friends and family. I got the idea after getting frustrated by reports like “I had this error message on my computer. It said that the whatsit had caused a thingy operation”. No-one ever wrote down error messages, and could never remember what they said. I tried to teach people how to take screen shots, so that they could send screen shots of error messages, but that didn’t work.
So, I wrote Panic Button. The user clicks (or double-clicks) on an icon in the Windows system tray. Panic Button then takes a screen shot, and displays a form where the user can enter some details. When the user clicks the “Send” button, the screen shot is sent to a pre-configured e-mail address as an attachment.
Changes in version 2.5 include:
- Dutch translation provided by Herman Hiddinga
- Added checkbox for SSL/TLS
- Config file is automatically encrypted (using EFS) if on NTFS partition
- Localised tooltips (fix for bug number 1640900)
- Added keyboard shortcut (RFE 1521109)
- Removed French translation, as it was causing a bug (1685043)
- New icon (dialog-warning icon from the Tango Desktop Project). This is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.
- Fixed bug in copying help file to temporary directory before opening it
