The Inq wrote that Fujitsu made a breakthrough this week on storage technology which will boost hard drive capacity by as much as 500 percent.

The manufacturer says it has developed technology to read data from smaller points on the platter, this technology should be available in 2009.
But you can hold your horses because HDDs using the tech won't be available until 2009 - the firm needs to improve the head technology to match the ability to make smaller pits on a platter. There's also a change in materials for a platter so that the ability to read the smaller data will be more reliable.
