The 20GB iPod with color display
PortalPlayer, a supplier of iPod chips, revealed its financial results yesterday. They discussed some plans and expectations for the second half of this year which may hint at some upcoming products from Apple.

The company says it expects its third quarter sales will likely benefit from new flash-based chip designs. Currently the company supplies Apple with controller chips for HDD-based players, while Sigmatel provides Apple with chips for the flash-based iPod shuffle.

Analysts believe PortalPlayer may have secured a contract with Apple to provide chips for a 2GB iPod mini with flash memory instead of a HDD. New iPods from Apple, including color iPod minis, higher capacity iPod shuffles and a iPod video are expected to arrive in October, according to analysts.
