Western Digital reveals the upcoming Black NVMe SSD, a new model that uses the M.2 2280 form factor. This disk uses 3D NAND flash memory chips in combination with an in-house controller.
The Black NVMe SSD is offered in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities, with MSRPs of $119.99, $229.99, and $449.99, respectively. Availability is slated for the end of April.
Each model has a mean time to failure of 1.75 million hours. The terabytes written (TBW) endurance is rated at 600TB for the 1TB model, 300TB for the 500GB disk and 200TB for the 250GB edition.
The 1TB model is the fastest of the pack with a read speed of up to 3400MB/s and a write speed of up to 2800MB/s. It has random 4K read IOPS of 500k and random 4k write performance of 400k IOPS. The 500GB model has up to 3400MB/s read performance, 2500MB/s write speeds, 410k random 4K read IOPS, and 330k random 4K write IOPS. Last we have the 250GB edition with its 3000MB/s read, 1600MB/s write, 220k random 4K read, and 170k random 4K write IOPS.
