One topic that impressed me was the need for better color on our sets. Bob Scaglione of Sharp Electronics gave a good summary of where LCDs seem to be going. He believes 50-inch displays and up will be increasingly important, 1080p will be even more commonplace, and most big sets will move to 120-Hz technology. All of that is happening today, of course, but will continue. After that, he said he expects the next big thing will be a move to a 10-bit color depth, theoretically allowing for up to 1 billion colors, instead of the 16.8 million today's 8-bit color systems have. He also talked about how RGB LED backlights would also provide for a larger color gamut, which is the amount of the color space that a display can actually reproduce.Read more over here.
